What is the NPTA?
The NPTA is a joint organization of the Danish, Finnish, Norwegian
and Swedish piano technician associations.
It was founded in 1996 as a result of the contacts that were established
when the different associations participated in a venture initiated
by the 'Rådet för Små och Mellanstora Verksamheter i Norden'
(formerly 'Nordiska Hantverksrådet'), in which the situation
for small crafts in the Nordic countries was examined.
It quickly became clear that there were considerable advantages
to be gained from raising common issues at a Nordic level, and the
subsequent foundation of the NPTA was a natural step.
The NPTA has drawn up a proposal for a common framework for training
and education of piano technicians in the Nordic countries. This
work goes hand-in-hand with the on-going task of evaluating and
improving the education situation as a whole. Furthermore, the NPTA
is participating in a similar project at European level. (Förslag

The NPTA is strictly speaking an informal collaboration between
the established Nordic pianotech associations. This means that individual
piano technicians cannot be members of the NPTA.
Nordic Piano convention
The most notable result of recent Nordic collaboration
has been the annual Nordisk Pianoträff (Nordic
Piano convention), where piano technicians from all the Nordic countries
gather for seminars, discussions and social activities.
This convention started in 1996 and the four Nordic
countries each year take their turn in hosting the event.
